Its objective as defined in the {{ ::irpcm_constitution_2023.pdf |Constitution}} is to advance and disseminate knowledge on all aspects of mycoplasmas, a term that refers to all members of the class Mollicutes. Notable members of these bacteria include those in the genera //Mycoplasma////Spiroplasma//and '//Candidatus// Phytoplasma'These organisms include many species that are important pathogens of human, domestic animals, and crops.

-  * Developing a more complete understanding of the cellular and molecular biology of mycoplasmas, including those features that may be unique in the prokaryotic world to mycoplasmas
-  * Elucidation of the diversity of mycoplasmas
-  * Defining virulence factors of mycoplasmas pathogenic to humans, domestic and wild animals, and plants
-  * Identifying more effective means of diagnosis, prevention, and control of mycoplasma infections and disease

-Originally the Programme was organized to work in parallel with the International Subcommittee on the Taxonomy of Mollicutes within the IOM and the Working Teams were concerned mainly with identification and characterization of the Mollicutes. Howevermore recentlyincreasing effort has been directed towards understanding pathogenesis of diseases associated with Mollicutes and working towards the control of infections.+In furtherance of the objective, the IRPCM is organized into individual teams with specific focus. Through team activities, we aim to promote individual and collaborative studies, facilitate effective exchange of scientific information, and collaborate with other relevant organizations. The goals of IRPCM teams include these aspects of Mycoplasmology:
+  * Elucidating the biological diversity, include the description of novel taxa and improvement of taxonomy
+  * Facilitating omics studies for global views of evolutiongene content and expression regulationand the link to pathogenesis
+  * Developing a more complete understanding of the cellular and molecular biology
+  * Defining the virulence factors and mechanisms
+  * Identifying more effective means of diagnosis, prevention, and control of mycoplasma-associated diseases

-The main Programme objective is to foster international scientific relationships and exchange of scientific information, strains, and reagents. In addition, the IRPCM regroups international experts in all fields related to mycoplasmas.+Additionally, the IRPCM maintains a close relationship with the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes (ICSP) [[https://mollicutes.ipmb.sinica.edu.tw/|Subcommittee on the Taxonomy of Mollicutes]] to facilitate scientific communication among the stakeholders.
