The International Research Program on Comparative Mycoplasmology (IRPCM) was launched in 1971 under auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations as a consultative group. In 1986, IRPCM became a permanent standing committee of the International Organization for Mycoplasmology (IOM) and has special status within IOM.
